Minocqua Country Club plays host to the 117th Wisconsin State Amateur, sponsored by West Bend Insurance, beginning Monday. It’s the first time in the tournament’s storied history that the WSGA has staged the event north of Wisconsin Highway 29 — the major east-west thoroughfare that runs from Green Bay to Wausau to River Falls.

The Wisconsin State Amateur, sponsored by West Bend Insurance, and Minocqua Country Club each have long histories spanning more than a century. Starting Monday, those two storied paths cross for the first time as the 101-year-old club hosts the 117th playing of the state's top amateur golf championship. (subscriber access)

The WIAA limits most high school teams to just five contact days during the offseason. Outside of those five days, coaches cannot instruct or teach fundamentals to players. Lakeland Union High School has found a loophole in the instruction process as the football program brought in coaches from other schools to help run an offensive and defensive installation camp on Tuesday and Wednesday.
