Can we survive this divide?
Gary Meinert
Columnist

Never in our lifetime has our elected government been so blatantly attacked from within by legislators of the opposition party. For the sake of our republic and progeny it must end before it escalates beyond our control. This matter is neither inconsequential nor has it risen just recently. It was spawned over 50 years ago and must be understood clearly to understand these attacks ... and hopefully save our republic.

Understanding the origins of this dilemma must be reviewed.

The genesis of the tactic presently used by the leftist Democrats came from Sal Alinsky, a major player in the world of rebellion. He held a close relationship with the communists and accepted them as allies, yet he refused to condemn the Soviet Empire for murdering thousands of leftists. That was contrasted by his feelings toward his own country, the United States, by condemning it as a" system worth burning."

Alinsky skillfully blended groups together and encouraged or inspired others to his cause. He was considered a leading theorist for the Progressives who had given strong support to the communist cause after the fall of Berlin. With increased skill his organizers insinuated themselves into President Johnson's "War on Poverty" and funneled federal funds into their own organizations and causes. Perhaps Alinsky's greatest feat was to mold together a solid coalition of communists, activists, democrats, liberals, black radicals, anarchists and social justice activists. Their similarities fused them into a formidable organization. As David Horowitz would remind us, what we presently call the Progressive Party began as a creation of the Communist Party. Without a doubt Alinsky's most intuitive advice is as adroit today as in his time: "Power comes out of the barrel of a gun is an absurd rallying cry when the other side has all the guns."

In 1969 an unknown Wellesley undergraduate, Hillary Rodham, submitted a 92 page senior thesis on Alinsky's views. Time spent with Alinsky led her to the conclusion he was as important to the cause of rebellion as Walt Whitman, Martin Luther King and other radicals. Make no mistake, Alinsky's purpose of the revolution was always to undermine our democratic system, take power from the haves and give it to the have-nots. Stealthy for years the subversive group quietly and successfully continued unabated to insert leftists into the presidential administrations of Nixon, Ford, Carter, Reagan G.H.W. Bush, and of course Clinton.

Barack Obama had never met Alinsky but became an adept practitioner of his methods. At the young age of 23 he was hired by the Alinsky team to organize residents of South Side Chicago. Until he was elected his focus was directed entirely on the largest radical organization in our country, ACORN. It was a corrupt organization and was eventually exposed as using federal funds wrongly. In 1992 Obama became a major factor in helping Democrat Carol Moseley Braun get elected which was significant in his rising political career. The die was cast when he became a U.S. senator from his home state of Illinois. His future continued to be guided by Progressives which instructed him to avoid debates and vote "present" as often as possible.

Obama's wife Michelle promoted his position when she told a reporter that "Barack is not a politician first and foremost. He's a community activist exploring the viability of politics to make change." Obama responded, "I take that observation as a compliment."

To the Leftist radicals Obama couldn't have been prepared at a better time. He was virtually unknown with little or no history and was a black man with great speaking abilities. They had successfully prepared one of their own who was capable of taking the White House.

After gaining the presidency one might reconsider what Obama actually meant when he said, "We are five days away from fundamentally transforming the United States of America." His pride was far beyond his skills but his timing fit the Progressive plan perfectly while our country became a disaster under his leadership. Now Conservatives looked forward anxiously to the next presidential candidates.

The Democrats could not accept the possibility of a loss in the upcoming election so the already ensconced leftists prepared to do whatever was necessary to guarantee their nominee, Hillary Clinton, the Presidency. Following are just a few of the many destructive forces discovered before and after the election.

Lois Lerner: Director of the "Exempt Organizations Unit of the IRS" where she targeted conservative groups and denied or delayed their tax exempt status. She pled the Fifth Amendment, left office and received her full pension.

John Koskinen: Lois Lerner's boss was even worse than his underling. It was under his watch that thousands of incriminating emails and backup tapes mysteriously disappeared. He, like Ms Lerner retired.

Eric Holder: Obama's "wingman" and the only Attorney General held in contempt of Congress was openly corrupt. He directed the gun running strategy where U.S. guns were sold to the drug cartels in our country. The plan was to blame and eliminate our second amendment when innocent Mexicans would be killed. Holder's "Fast & Furious" program killed hundreds including a Borstar Agent without penalty. Additionally, s Attorney General he announced to his DOJ that he would refuse to prosecute any of "His People" including the "Black Panthers" who previously had used baseball bats to obstruct voters at the polls.

Jonathan Gruber: One of the primary architects of "Obamacare" bragged that "he pulled the wool over Americans eyes who were too stupid to understand the bill." That's one of the reasons he admitted making it so complicated it would eventually become nationalized.

Ben Rhodes: As primary designer of the "Iran Deal" he boasted about the ridiculous plan and how he was able to manipulate the media, or as he called it, "The Echo Chamber." The plan cost our country millions of dollars and strengthened the Muslim enemy.

Donald Trump, a non-political candidate entered the Presidential primary against 15 others, most of who were seasoned veterans. On Nov. 8, 2016 the impossible happened. Trump won in a landslide over Hillary Clinton, the expected winner and leftist "Progressive" candidate.

It was a tragic upset loss to an orchestrated plan by the Progressives. President Obama's terms had lasted from 2009 to 2017 which gave the Progressives eight years to add as many leftists to their base as possible. They had looked with confidence as Hillary Clinton's numbers soared for an easy victory over Trump. Her election would have given them an additional eight uninterrupted years to secure a deeply ensconced Leftist Government of 16 years. The tutelage and leadership of Alinsky's dream would have come to fruition.

When Trump won, the Progressives fumed, cried openly, berated the President Elect and spewed hatred. Their plans of a victory were dashed but their new intention was to destroy our government from within.

Our newly elected legislators are duty bound to serve all the citizens of the United States regardless of their party affiliation. That stopped abruptly when our new President chose Cabinet, Supreme Court, Ambassador Appointments and a plethora of others. Except for a few absolutely necessary appointments the Progressives voted most down or delayed. The obvious very qualified nominees were accepted by the narrowest of margins. Two of the most exceptional choices, Secretary of State Mike Pompeo and CIA Director Gina Haspel were two who barely passed.

Before our new President could be sworn into office 49 Progressives boycotted his inauguration. Some gave their reason as "standing up for John Lewis" who citizen Trump had criticized. Others offered their unsubstantiated "concern that Russian involvement had swung the election."

We as a nation have awakened to a divided country. We have found our left-leaning friends cultivate unhappiness by cultivating anger; neighbors shun neighbors, siblings are divided and happy couples separate. Many of our left-leaning friends cannot tolerate the thought of a different opinion. By comparison Conservatives never fell to those extremes when President Obama was elected. There is definitely a different mindset between the two parties.

President Trump and his administration have astonished us with successes and promises of more to come. Encouraged Conservatives look happily to the future but our Liberal friends sink deeper into anger and despondency. If we are ever going to change course as a nation, we must come to grips with how far we have fallen not only as a nation but even more so as a once united and happy people. Support for the President continues to arise which is incredibly important if we intend to keep our democratic Republic as the founders planned for us.
